cirugia_de_cataratasCataract is a clouding of the crystalline lens inside the eye which loses its natural transparency and lets less light into the eye as we age. The light that gets through to the retina is diffuse or disperse, which results in out of focus and blurred vision. Through cataract surgery, the cloudy crystalline lens is removed through a small incision with the assistance of advanced technology equipment, and replaced with a clear artificial lens called intraocular flexible lens that folds into the capsule where the crystalline lens was. Cataract surgery is often performed as an outpatient procedure and does not require hospitalization.

1.LenSx laser cataract surgeries:

lensxThe new innovative technique of cataract surgery with femtosecond LenSx laser provides patients with controlled accuracy and computer-assisted surgery while automating some of the most challenging steps of refractive cataract surgery (incisions, capsulotomy and fragmentation). Centro Panamericano de Ojos de El Salvador is the only one to offer LenSx laser cataract surgery in the country. They have highly qualified staff to perform this last generation surgery.

The laser replaces the traditional scalpel to optimize all incisions and achieve more accurate and safe improved surgical performance. This innovative technique gives the surgeon a three-dimensional visualization in real time for true customization of the crystalline lens extraction and replacement procedure.

When the patient selects the LenSx laser option, he will receive the following benefits:

  • Laser Surgery guided by computer and robotic systems.

  • The most advanced method for cataract surgery

  • USFDA-approved cataract laser surgery, which gives confidence in the procedure.

  • New cataract surgery level and replication.

  • No-scalpel procedure.

  • Faster recovery time.

2.Phacoemulsification:

facoThis is the current modern technique which consists in the emulsification (dissolve and aspire) of the crystalline lens inside the eye through an average 2-mm incision to introduce a high-tech foldable lens.

The incision is self-sealing and does not require stitches in most cases. One of the main advantages of this technique, in addition to its safety, is that the visual recovery time is within 72 hours in most patients, facilitating the return to work or daily routine in a shorter time, compared to other techniques.

Types of Intraocular Lenses

Centro Panamericano de Ojos also features a wide range of intraocular lenses according to your needs, achieving in many cases a substantial independence from lens wear. It is the first center in the country that has implemented the RESTOR lens, which is a multifocal, diffractive apodized lens which provides suitable image for distant, intermediate and close vision.

Types:

  • The AcrySof® IQ Aspherico lens corrects distant vision and spherical optical aberrations

  • The AcrySof® IQ Toric lens corrects distant vision and astigmatism

  • The AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR lens corrects distant, intermediate and near vision.

  • The AcrySof® IQ ReSTORToric lens corrects distant, intermediate and near vision as well as astigmatism.
